I couldn't decide between french toast or cheesy eggs this morning, and this was the love-child of these two wants.
So, what you're going to need:
- two slices of light rye or white bread
- one egg
- 1/2 tbsp butter
- enough slices of cheddar cheese to cover one piece of bread. (you'll see from the pictures that I used extremely aged white cheddar. I would have liked it more with the normal orange cheddar.)
- Ketchup or maple syrup for dipping, whichever you prefer (or nothing!)
How to make this deliciousness:
1. Beat your egg in a shallow bowl, add a pinch of salt and pepper if you want (I wouldn't recommend salt and pepper if you're going to dip it in maple syrup)
2. Put your butter into a frying pan. Turn it to medium and let it melt while you...
3. slice your cheese.
4. After letting your butter and pan heat up a little, dip only ONE side of one of your pieces of bread in the egg, letting it soak up some of the egg, then immediately put it egg side down in the pan. Do this with the other slice of bread (remember, only one side! we don't want salmonella!)
5. Layer the cheese to fit on the bread.
6. After letting the bread cook for about a minute check the piece without the cheese on it. If it's cooked, flip it egg-side-up on top of the cheese. If not, let it cook some more and THEN flip it on top of the cheese.
7. Right before the cheese is fully melted flip the sandwich over to the other side. Let the cheese completely melt.
8. Transfer to a plate and grab a little side dish of your ketchup/syrup/nothing and enjoy! :)

The first sammich.
So us two ladies went downstairs looking for some food. We were going to make a boring sammich, but decided against it. This, my pretties, was the outcome.
*note of badassery: you can make all of this in 1 pan!
Serves: you and whoever asked you to make a sammich (2)
4 slices of bread, white or sourdough
1 plum tomato (optional)
6 white mushrooms
1/4 red onion
1/4 white onion
2 cloves garlic
2 strips bacon
Sharp white cheddar
Deli chicken
Butter or margarine
How you make this awesome sammich:
1. Cut yo sh!t up. Thinly slice onions, so that they are delicious, fryable, strips of onion-y goodness. Same with your mushrooms, not paper thin, about 1/2 a centimeter (oh, canada). Cut your strips of bacon in half. Cut the cheese (heheh) into enough slices to cover 2 slices of bread. Mince your garlic. Cut your deli chicken into strips or 8ths. Cover 1 side of each piece of bread in butter.
2. Turn your oven to medium heat. Cook your bacon strips, that have previously been cut in half, until they are just about to get crispy... but don't make them crispy! Drain the fat, put the bacon on a plate to the side.
3. Add about a tsp of butter to your pan (butter yo sh!t (my drunk kitchen reference)), let it melt, and then toss all 'dem onions in. Let them fry for a little bit, so that they're limp but not quite yet floppy (heheheh...).
4. Add your mushrooms and garlic in NOW! Saute them, yum yum! Make them all pretty and caramelized and brown. You can add a pinch of salt in this step, if you want, but the bacon should cover the salt factor. Add the onions, garlic and mushrooms to the same plate as the bacon.
5. Alright, here's the grilled cheese step, let's hope you know how to make grilled cheese. 2 pieces of bread, butter side down, evenly divide cheese slices between the two, cover with other 2 bread slices, butter side up. Flip when golden on one side, and cheese is half melted. Once cheese is melted and other side is golden, take them off the pan and put them on separate plates. Turn stove off.
6. While the sammiches cool down to touching temperature, quickly heat up the tomatoes and deli sliced chicken in the pan, just using the heat from the previous cooking. Take it out after a few seconds, put it on the plate with the mushrooms, onions, garlic and bacon. (I bet at this point you're getting hungry..)
7. Split your grilled cheeses open and layer the tomatoes, onion/mushroom/garlic mix, bacon, and chicken. Close up your sammich before it gets cold.
8. EAT! :3
